John Fitzsimons: Rise, oil on linen, 60 x 50cm | John Fitzsimons: The Theft of Time | Saturday 26 August – Saturday 23 September 2023 | SO Fine Art Editions | Image: John Fitzsimons: Rise, oil on linen, 60 x 50cm – wide slanting bands of pure, translucent colour cross back and forth on a background of (unprimed?) linen; the top band is dark blud, then dark red, then medium brown, then white then yellow, then greyish-green

John Fitzsimons is a Dublin-based painter and printmaker whose work seeks to evoke balance and harmony in society, while also highlighting our damaging relationship with the environment.

Fitzsimon’s careful juxtaposition of curvilinear and linear shapes on a flat ground interrogates the space between form and boundary. His colour palette ranges from muted blues and greys to pinks and crisp lemons. Although individual in nature this collection of paintings form a continuum of analogous images.

He graduated with honours from the DLIADT in 2000 and has been working at Stoney Road Press since 2006, where he has had the privilege of working with and learning from renowned artists, including Patrick Scott and Brian O’Doherty. His artwork is held in various public and private collections around the world, including the Office of Public Works, National Botanic Gardens, Ulster Bank, Deloitte, Unilever pharmaceuticals, Dublin Castle and CIAS.
