Mary Cullen: Dreamlands

Saturday 17 September 2011 – Sunday 8 January 2012
Mary Cullen: Days II Carborumdum Print, 2011 | Mary Cullen: Dreamlands | Saturday 17 September 2011 – Sunday 8 January 2012 | VISUAL Centre for Contemporary Art

Opening Reception Friday 16 September at 7:30pm

Mary Cullen presents a subtle and considered exhibition in the Lobby Gallery at VISUAL. This body of work is a combination of hand printing techniques with elements of textiles. These intimate pieces are layered in colour and texture, drawing the viewer into the image. As the title suggests, the work merges memory of places real and imagined; inviting the viewer into these Dreamlands.

The experience of making the artworks is very important to the artist, as engagement in an art-making activity can lead a ‘flow’ experience, where one is engrossed or lost in the activity. Sometimes this ‘flow’ can be seen or sensed in the finished piece, be it through composition, colour or technique displayed.

Mary Cullen is a printmaker based in Carlow and is a founding member of Blackstack Print Studio, Kilkenny.

Creative Print Workshop with Mary Cullen will run over three weeks on Tuesday 27th September; 4th October; 11th October at 6.30pm. €60 for three sessions. Places are limited so please book through the box office 0599172600.
